The Madill varsity girls basketball club lost to Mount St. Mary 59-32 and the Madill boys lost 62-57 to Bethel in the consolation bracket of the regional tournament Thursday in Bethel. Therefore, basketball season has ended for Madill.
Madill senior Davius Sanders, who led the ‘Cats with 24 points, knocked in a bucket with 29.4 seconds left to pull the Wildcats within 60-57 of Bethel. Nonetheless, Bethel subsequently sank two free throws to widen the margin to five points. The Wildcats had one last possession, but turned the ball over to the Bethel squad to drain the final seconds. Asa Robertson’s three cut Bethel’s advantage to 58-55 late in the final frame. The freshman finished the contest with 16 points. Seth Coleman had eight points, Tanner Barnes tossed in six points and Diego Flores added three.
The Madill girls got seven points each from senior Kaitlyn Jones and junior Quaja Byars in the loss to Mt. St. Mary. Rylee Ruff and Cloe Austin both had six points on the day. Madison Jowers added four points and Caitlyn Gillis had two points.
