Asa Robertson’s layup off the glass from the baseline right with 18.3 seconds left in the game proved to be the winning shot for the Madill boys ninth grade basketball team in a thrilling 47-46 victory over Plainview Monday (Feb. 13) inside the Wildcat Fieldhouse for the junior high season finale. The triumph punctuates a perfect season for the ‘Cats at the ninth grade level.
Plainview had one last possession with 10.8 seconds and no time outs remaining. The last three-point attempt by the Indians from the left wing skipped off the rim at the buzzer and the ‘Cats prevailed.
Madill managed a 33-30 edge by the end of the third frame after leading 23-20 at intermission.
In other action in Madill, the now undefeated sixth grade ‘Cats scored a 49-32 victory against the Indians and the eighth grade Wildcats defeated Plainview, 45-18. However, the seventh grade Madill boys fell to the Indians, 43-24, in the season finale for junior high basketball in 2016-17.
